The Incas The Inca civilization began as a tribe in the Cuzco area, where the legendary first Sapa Inca, Manco Capac founded the Kingdom of Cuzco around 1200. According to the myth, Incan civilization began with a man named Pacaritambo, who tried a golden staff called the "Tapac-Yauri". The Inca were instructed to create a Temple of the Sun in the spot where the staff sank into the earth to honor the god. After a long journey, including a tour of the underworld, the Inca arrived at Cuzco, where they built the temple. During the journey, one of Manco’s brothers was turned to stone. In another version of this legend, instead of coming from a cave in Cuzco, the siblings emerged from the Titicaca. The Incas expanded from modern day Chile to Peru, and they were conquered by the Spaniards in 1533. (Wikipedia)
